By A City Correspondent GUWAHATI, June 10 – In what could be a sign of positive development for the Government run vernacular medium higher secondary schools, more students have enquired and taken forms from several such institutions in the city this year compared to the last couple of years.With the young people facing the uphill task of making the right decision at this time, there have been some eager moments in their lives as well as in the lives of their guardians. The crowd as usual has been more visible at premier Cotton College, but other educational institutions like TC Govt. Girls HS and MP School, Gopal Bodo Govt HS School etc are also optimistic about increasing their enrollment number.Principal of TC Govt. Girls HS and MP School, Jyostna Devi said that as the Arts results of this school has been improving steadily, the number of students in the Arts stream has been increasing over the years. The school offers Arts, Science and Vocational stream at the HS level and so far, the school has issued more than 300 forms, an encouraging sign given the competition coming from the numerous private junior colleges.The admission here is scheduled on June 19 and 20. The capacity in the Arts section is 150, but the school authorities informed that the infrastructure was available to take up to 200 students in the Arts section.Admission in Gopal Bodo Govt. HS School which offers Arts and Science stream is slated on June 16 and 17. The school authorities informed that around 300 forms had been issued till date.The last date for form submission at Cotton Collegiate Govt. HS School is June 13. The school offers Science, Arts and Vocational courses in the higher secondary level. The admissions will take place on June 16. The school authorities informed that classes are likely to start from June 18.On the other hand, some of the private junior colleges which have succeeded in maintaining an enviable overall performance have fixed their admission dates after admission in Cotton College.It may be mentioned here that admission at Cotton College is fixed on June 11 for Science stream and June 13 for Arts stream. The cut off percentage is slightly higher compared to last year. In the Science day shift, the cut marks has come down to 528 and in the Science evening shift, the cut off marks is 517. The cut off marks for Arts stream is 452.Private junior college Swadeshi Academy has fixed its admission date for Science stream on June 14 and for Commerce stream on June 12. The school authorities informed that around 1500 forms have been issued till date. The capacity in the Science section is 220 students and capacity in the Commerce section is 240 students.
