Accreditation of CBSE schools to be implemented

New Delhi: For the first time ever in the country by any other board, all schools affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will be given accreditation based on quality of education by the board.

The initiative will come into force before beginning of the subsequent academic session.

"This is for the first time we have decided to launch accreditation scheme for the schools from this year, with an aim to set benchmark for quality assurance among the schools in the country," said Vineeth Joshi, CBSE Chairman.

The board has set up a committee to frame guidelines for assessment and accreditation of schools. The committee will also suggest detailed modalities on formation of separate committees for the purpose of accreditation.

"The main aim of the assessment would be to find out the quality of education, teacher-pupil ratio, students' participation in the teaching-learning process, mode of teaching and library apart from other things," added Joshi.

"Even the infrastructure facilities in the schools will be part of the assessment and accreditation procedure," he said.

Grades would be given to the accredited schools that will indicate their standing with respect to quality. source:
