BPD participates in Mission Green Earth campaign

At a time when the world is being plagued by environmental issues and people showing more indifference than making conscious efforts, more than 1000 students and faculty at BITS Pilani-Dubai, Academic City participated in a stand-up drive as a sign of their solidarity in the pursuit of the Millennium Development Goals on October 19, 2008. They joined other U.A.E residents across the seven emirates in a pledge to pursue sustainable living and help maintain a sustainable environment nation-wide. This pledge is the result of the 'Mission Green Earth - Stand up and Take Action 2008' campaign held under the patronage of her highness Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein. The students stood up to a pledge read in support of the Millennium Development Goals with a focus on environmental sustainability. They were encouraged to take an active interest in conservation of resources especially water and energy, in planting trees and recycling waste. They were also reminded that any small effort on their part would go a long way in ensuring sustainability for future generations. Their participation in this stand-up drive will be counted for an entry into the Guinness Book of Records for the largest number of people standing up for a cause.
