IGNOU session begins at Nowgong College

NAGAON, March 25 – Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) started its second session under its convergence programme at Nowgong College recently. The session, which began from January, was formally opened by Dr Khargeswar Bhuyan, principal, Nowgong College.

In his speech, Dr Bhuyan said that with the opening of educational programmes under IGNOU at Nowgong College the dream of students, employees, unemployed youths and house-wives in getting higher education and professional courses was going to materialise. Certificate and diploma courses in various subjects will help different categories of students to get professional qualification.

Dr Sarat Barkataki, co-ordinator of Nowgong College’s IGNOU centre, in his welcome address, said that the centre has launched the PG course in Mathematics, degree course in Social Work, diploma courses in Tourism, Primary Education, Certificate course in Tourism and courses in Rural Development, Disaster Management, English Teaching and Computer Learning. He further informed the centre has plans to open Master’s degree in Education.

Dr Bhuyan distributed study materials among five students. K P Chowdhury, Dr Manik Kar, Dr Sanjay Dey, R P Powrell, B K Bhuyan, Guna Saikia, Bonti Neog, Balin Saikia, Anuradha Deuri, Dipika Saikia and S K Sarma of Dhing College were present in the meeting. ASSAM TRIBUNE
