IIM Ahmedabad, ATS to train youth on counter terrorism

IIM Ahmedabad, ATS to train youth on counter terrorism

Students from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) will work in collaboration with the Gujarat Anti Terror Squad (ATS) to teach students the nuances of countering terrorism.

Students from 50 degree colleges of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar will be trained by IIM-A and ATS jointly under the new endeavor.

Speaking on the initiative, Gujarat ATS Chief, Ajay Tomar said, "The ATS has collaborated with IIM Ahmedabad for creating awareness on how to tackle terror strikes. IIM Ahmedabad students will impart training to the youths of degree colleges, through whom we intend to reach out to masses for spreading awareness."

He further said, "A curriculum will also be developed to detail the do's and don'ts during an event of a terror strike."

This joint-initiative is inspired by the course 'Globalizing Resurgent India through Innovative Transformation (GRIT)' launched by former president, A.P.J Abdul Kalam at IIM Ahmedabad.

Post 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, a Pune college run by an NGO also started a two-year post-graduate course in counter-terrorism in India.

The course focuses on counter terrorism strategies and preparing its students to identify potential threats and take note of suspicious behaviour and people.

"India has been a victim of terrorism for so many decades and especially after the Mumbai terror attacks last year, it has become very important that we study terrorism and educate people about counter-terrorism strategy," said Sanjay Nahar, founder of the NGO. source:
