NAAC awards coveted 'A' Grade

NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council), an autonomous body established by the University Grants Commission(UGC) of India to assess and accredit institutions of higher education in India has accredited BITS, Pilani along with its campuses in Dubai and Goa with Grade A, which is the highest grade awarded by NAAC.

Before awarding the grade, the high power NAAC team visited every campus including BITS, Pilani-Dubai(BPD). The NAAC team visited the Dubai campus from 9th - 11th December, 2008 and their rigorous procedures for assessment were applied. The assessment of BPD was done on the basis of several criteria which included Curriculum, Teaching-Learning and Evaluation, Infrastructure and Learning Resources, Student support and Progression, Governance and Leadership, Innovative practices etc

The NAAC Peer Team visited the entire facility at BITS, Pilani- Dubai located at Dubai International Academic City. They went through all the Departments, the various Laboratories, the learning resources at the Library, the sports and other facilities like Clinic, Canteen etc provided to the students on the Campus. They also interacted with the faculty, staff and students of BITS, Pilani-Dubai during their visit.

The NAAC team observed from the records that BITS, Pilani-Dubai which is currently offering Engineering programmes in seven different disciplines has achieved tremendous growth in a short span of 8 years. It has students from 22 countries around the world with 27% of its students being girls. It was also noticed that the graduated students of BITS, Pilani-Dubai are very well-placed around the world. Several have been recruited by global corporates such as Microsoft, Oracle, Larsen and Toubro, Dell, Panasonic, Siemens etc and more than 50 reputed universities like Stanford, Cornell, Purdue etc have offered admission to many graduates for pursuing Masters and Phd.

On receiving the coveted "A Grade" and "Very Good" University ranking from NAAC, Dr. M. Ramachandran ,Director of BITS, Pilani-Dubai, congratulated the faculty, staff and students of BITS, Pilani-Dubai and attributed this success to their untiring efforts and achievements. He added that the sincerity and hardwork put by BITS, Pilani-Dubai to ensure high level of education and career opportunities has resulted in this and that BPD will continue to tread in the same path of excellence to serve the population of this region.
