University of Mumbai Admission 2009 MA in Economics

The Department of Economics of the University of Mumbai, formerly called the Bombay School of Economics, was established on 21st August 1921 and is currently considered as one of the leading centres of teaching and research in economics in the country. Since 1963, the department has been recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) as a Centre of Advanced Study (CAS) in Industrial Economics and Public Finance; and all UGC expert committees, which have visited the department have consistently rated the work of this centre as “Excellent”. In the most recent peer review carried out by the National Academic & Accreditation Council (NAAC) in January 2001, the University of Mumbai was awarded the highest possible (5-star) rating, while the Department of Economics – which contributed immensely towards this overall ranking – was identified as one of the best departments in the university.

Selection on the basis of an entrance test to be held on sunday June 14th 2009.
Last date for issue of forms from department is March 30th 2009.
Last date for receiving completed entrance exam forms is April 27th 2009.

The University of Mumbai (known earlier as University of Bombay) is one of the oldest and premier Universities in India. It was established in 1857 consequent upon "Wood's Education Dispatch", and it is one amongst the first three Universities in India.

As a sequel to the change in the name of the city from Bombay to Mumbai, the name of the University has been changed from "University of Bombay " to "University of Mumbai " ,vide notification issued by the Government of Maharashtra and published in the Government Gazette dated 4th September, 1996.
