HSSLC sees 56 pass percentage in 10 streams

AIZAWL, April 8: The pass percentage in the higher school leaving certificate examinations this year conducted by the Mizoram Board of School Education stood at 56 in all the 10 streams, including Arts, Science and Commerce.

Sources today said of the total 5,186 appeared candidates under the Arts stream, 2,983 students got through, registering a pass percentage of 57.72. Another 249 candidates got compartmental chances.

In science stream, 940 out of 1,700 candidates secured success registering 55.29 pass percentage, with 93 candidates obtaining compartmental chances.
The commerce stream witnessed 48.25 pass percentage with 193 out of 400 getting through the examination. Vocational is further divided into seven streams –computer technique, software, hardware, garment, automobile engineering technology, medical laboratory technician and horticulture. Except for the computer technique, all the vocational streams were introduced last year.

In vocational, horticulture stream recorded the highest pass percentage at 93.75 as 30 of the 32 candidates passed while (computer) hardware witnessed the lowest pass percentage, 15.38 per cent, as only two of the 13 candidates passed.

In (computer) software, nine candidates appeared of which four got through making the pass percentage 44.44 while computer technique stream witnessed a 43 per cent pass as 51 of 166 candidates were successful. As many as 29 of the 40 candidates in automobile engineering technology stream passed recording a 72.50 pass percentage.

The garment stream recorded 80 pass percentage as eight out of ten candidates, all girls, got through while in medical laboratory technician the pass percentage was 92.68. MBSE Secretary F Lianhmingthanga said the pass percentage in the vocational streams were satisfactory except in the hardware stream in which mathematics badly affected the results. (Agencies)
