IIT Madras Admission

Procedure for seeking admission to M.Tech programme (four semesters) by the Foreign National/Non-Resident Indian candidates under self-financing scheme.

You are requested to follow all the step by step procedures :

Step 1 : Visit website
2 : See the details of eligibility under “Admission of Foreign Nationals”
3 : If you fulfill the qualification norms, download the application.
4 : Ensure that you also possess GRE/GMAT and TOEFL score.
5 : Fill up the application form, indicate preference of branch of Engineering
enclose copy of passport, GOI clearance format in triplicate.

6 : Send complete details :

a) Soft copy of filled in application, scanned copies of documents, mobile
Phone no., e-mail address, Fax No. etc. through attachment by e-mail

b) Print out of application and Xerox copies of other documents along with processing fee of US $ 50 should be sent by post to :

7 : On receipt of your application, the same will be sent to the Head of the
Department for consideration. The Head of Department may also hold
Telephonic interview or can contact you through net conferencing.

8 : If recommended for admission by the HoD, your request will be sent to
Govt. of India for clearance. If you are an Indian Passport holder (NRI),
GOI clearance is not required.

9 : Provisional offer of admission will be sent to you by the Academic Section
to the address for correspondence indicated by you.

10 : Please send your acceptance of admission and intimate probable date of your

11 : You may have to report for admission by the end of July along with Original
Certificates, Passport, student visa for the period of study, fees etc. to
the Deputy Registrar (Academic), IIT Madras, Chennai – 36, India.

12 : Fees (to be paid in the form of DD/Pay order drawn in favour of “The Registrar,

Admission and First Semester fee : US $ 2267
Subsequent Semester fee
i) Semester fee : US $ 1000 per semester (for SAARC Countries)
US $ 2000 Per semester (for other Countries)
ii) Other fee (Non-Statutory) : US $ 72 Per semester

Hostel fees : Indian Rupees 13,000/- per semester
NRI students can pay fees either in dollars or in equivalent Indian Rupees
on the date of admission.

13 : You will be provided with a room in Hostel, if you would like to stay in the campus.

14 : On admission, you may have to stay for a minimum of 4 semesters in the campus
or until you complete the programme.
