Centre rules out setting up of Agriculture University

KOKRAJHAR, July 15: The Government of India has ruled out the proposal of setting up of a Central Agriculture University at Kokrajhar, demand laid by BTC and various Bodo organizations.

MP SK Bwiswmuthiary questioned before the Union Minister of Agriculture KV Thomas during the session recently if the Government of India is keen to set up the Central Agricultural University at Kokrajhar and Krishi Vigyan Kendras in BTC districts.

In his reply, Minister of Agriculture KV Thomas said there is no proposal under consideration of the Government to set up a Bodoland Central Agricultural University at Kokrajhar. He also stated that, out of ten districts in lower Asom, seven districts already have Krishi Vigyan Kendras. He, however, said that establishment of Krishi Vigyan Kendras in the remaining three BTC districts - Baksa, Udalguri and Chirang has already been approved. SOURCE: THE SENTINEL
