‘Education must change in tune with the times’

BAIHATA CHARIALI, July 13 – With a view to discuss the ways to develop the educational standard in the educational institutes of the State right from the primary level to higher level, a meeting on educational standard uplift was held recently at Gateway Academy Junior College here.

Presided over by Satyabrat Kalita, president of the managing committee of the college, the meeting was attended by a number of educationists, guardians, leading citizens including students and teachers of the college. Khagendra Nath Kalita, retired principal of Karara HS School spoke about the change in traditional system of education in the age of advanced science and technology.

In his lecture the proposal to eliminate HSLC examination by Kapil Sibal, Union Minister for Human Resource Development was extensively discussed.

Delivering his lecture Umed Ali Dewan, assistant inspector of schools, Karara and Kamalpur BEEO also laid stress on the introduction of vocational and commercial courses in the schools so that one could find out a field for self-employment after receiving education.

In his speech Mohun Chandra Deka, principal of the institute said the system of education including course materials, infrastructure and educational environment should be changed with the change in society.

Nabajyoti Talukdar, secretary of the college management committee explained the purpose of the meeting. ASSAM TRIBUNE
