OBC students face deprivation at NIT: Forum

AGARTALA, July 17: The Tripura OBC Forum today expressed its displeasure at the alleged deprivation faced by OBC candidates with regard to getting admission in National Institute of Technology (NIT) here.

Tripura OBC Forum sources said both the State government and the forum demanded 27 per cent reservation for the OBC students, besides 31 per cent reservation for ST and 17 per cent for SC students.

The presidential notification approved State’s reservation formula of 31 per cent for ST and 17 per cent SC reservation, for 250 seats in the State quota of NIT, officials informed.

The CCB had set 100 marks for general category students, 78 for OBC students and 42 for SC and ST category of students for admission. As a result, only 56 students, mostly belonging to general category, had qualified and as many as 194 seats from the State quota could be claimed by students from outside as per central guidelines.
