Case registered against ragging

JORHAT, Aug 17: Rinkol Thammang, a student of HS first year (Arts) of JB College, Jorhat filed an FIR at Jorhat police station yesterday complaining that, a group of senior students of college hostel allegedly harassed him mentally and physically in the last couple of days in the name of ragging. Jorhat police has registered a case no. 374/09 regarding the matter and carrying on inquiry. Thammang is the son of Saukai Shyam, of Silonijan Ahom Gaon under Karbi Anglong district.

According to the information, Thammang was badly beaten by his senior colleagues last night as he was refused to do something following their order. The student also alleged that, they have regularly deal with him severely in the name of ragging and punished him roughly. So, he unable to bear such rigorous treatment, decided to go away from the college.

When contacted, Bijoy Sarmah, Principal of JB College, Jorhat, denied the incident and said that, they have taken up all possible measures to ward off ragging in the college and hostel campus. However, he informed that, an inquiry committee is formed to investigate the matter and expressed his hope that, the actual matter will be disclosed shortly. THE SENTINEL
