IIT Guwahati gears up for Techniche

GUWAHATI, Aug 11: Techniche, the annual techno-management fest of IIT-Guwahati, has successfully completed ten years and this year too it is poised to take the techno-world by storm. Every year students from almost all the reputed national engineering and management institutes like the NITs and other IITs and IIMs participate in Techniche. This year Techniche will be held from September 3-September 6.

Techniche ’08 had events ranging from the universally appealing robotics to ‘mysterious’ events like the forensics-based Crime Scene Investigation (CSI). The online events like Arbit, Ikaaru and Virtual Stock Market struck a chord with the crowd witnessing more than 70,000 clicks in its first hour!

Other attractions include the Management Module, After the Sunset and Pradarshini, which hosts major and cutting innovations in technology. The new FUNNICHE gives fun a new definition with many wonderful new events.

Workshops and lectures by prominent names in the industry and education sector are also held. Last year there were lectures by Prabhu Chawla, Dr C Mohan, Dr. John Mather (senior astrophysicist and Goddard Fellow, NASA; 2006 Physics Nobel Prize awardee) and by Michel Danino, a French author who participated in the translation and publication of the works of Sri Aurobindo.

This time there is much more to offer as there will be lectures by Franck Wilczek (Physics Nobel Laureate, 1996), Douglas Osheroff (Physics Nobel Laureate, 2004), Stuart Parkin (IBM Fellow, Director, IBM-Stanford Science and Application Centre), Adam Cheyer (Founder, Vice-President, Siri Inc), Shekhar Dattatri (Wildlife Film-maker, Rolex Award Winner), Agatha Sangma (Lawyer, Environmentalist, Youngest ever Member of Parliament), Director (Defense Research and Development Organization). The theme of Techniche 2009 is ‘Go Green’ and a variety of events have been planned keeping this theme in mind. A marathon race ‘Green Run’ will take place in Guwahati on August 30 as a prologue to Techniche.
