NEHU appoints proctors for peace and amity in campus

SHILLONG, Sept 11: North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) has appointed three faculty members as proctors to address the concerns of all the students at the university.

Giving this information, Vice Chancellor Professor Pramod Tandon told a newsmen here today that besides the enquiry committee, the proctors would look into the grievances of students, particularly those from outside the State.

Prof Tandon said the university has appointed Professor Rooplekha Borgohain, Professor BS Mipun and Dr Highland Kayang as proctors. Condemning the September 7 incident, the VC reiterated that the clash was not on community or departmental lines.

Informing newsmen that he had visited the hostels of both the departments concerned, the VC said, “I would like to assure everyone, particularly the parents of the students from far-off places, that the situation is absolutely normal and all students are safe and secure.”

Yesterday, Prof Tandon had a meeting with Asom Education Minister Gautam Bora, All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) and assured them of extending full cooperation in maintaining peace and tranquillity at the campus. THE SENTINEL
