Towards a peaceful coexistence

SHILLONG, Sept 10: North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Vice Chancellor Pramod Tandon today assured Asom Education Minister Gautam Bora of taking adequate measures to ensure safety of students of the university hailing from other States.

Tandon gave this assurance to Bora when the latter met him at the Assam House this morning to sort out the students’ clash at the university. Bora told reporters after the meeting that he was satisfied with the security arrangement made by the university to ensure safety of students who are from other States. Bora has also appealed the students’ community to maintain peace and harmony.

On September 7, a group of students from the Law Department of the NEHU attacked and injured three B Tech students hailing from Asom.

The Asom Education Minister also said he has faith on the police investigation and that culprit will be identified and punished. After the clash, the NEHU authority filed an FIR and instituted an inquiry into the incident.

The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), NEHU unit, today convened a meeting between students of both B Tech and Law Department and urged them to maintain peace and tranquillity in the university. THE SENTINEL
