IGNOU CPE centre launched

KOKRAJHAR, Oct 4: The Regional Centre, Guwahati of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), has launched a new centre for Certificate in Primary Education (CPE) programme at Kokrajharr on October 2 through a function held at Basic Training Auditorium hall where the study materials for Bodo medium were distributed to some teachers.

As a part of the programme the Regional Director, IGNOU, Guwahati Dr Vardhini Bhatacharjee gave the welcome address while the Consultant of the Regional Centre, Guwahati Dr RN. Bhattacharjee explained about the objectives of launching of CPE centres and its importance.

The chief guest of the launching programme Dr Kameswar Brahma, the president of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) said the steps taken by the IGNOU was very significant especially for Bodo medium as it is the first initiative from the IGNOU to launch the CPE for Bodo teacher trainees. He said the teachers and guardians have moral responsibility for quality education and to develop the educational scenario. He called upon the guardians for strict guidance of their children and asked the teachers to be sincere and dedicate in their duties for good and quality education. He also urged upon various organizations, district administration to maintain a congenial atmosphere for quality education. He also thanked the IGNOU Regional Centre, Guwahati for their noble venture of establishing CPE centres in all the four BTC districts.

According to the sources from the IGNOU, the CPE training was started since 2003 but the Bodo medium could not be taken due to translation work. Now the IGNOU has inducted a Bodo translator to start the programme, the sources said, adding that there will be six CPE centres in Kokrajhar district to be operational from this academic session.
