NEAT 2009

National Engineering Aptitude Test (NEAT) 2009 is an aptitude test for admission to B. Tech (Honours), B. Tech (Honours)-MBA, B. Tech (Honours)-M.Tech programmes being offered at LPU, Lovely Professional University.

Admission to B.Tech Honours , MBA Honours , Last date of admission extended. One of the largest Universities in India ranked A++ by Business India.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

For All Streams Including Biotechnology
Pass in 10+2 or equivalent or relevant higher qualification (with Physics, Maths and English as compulsory subjects and any one of the following - Chemistry/ Biology/ Computer science/ Biotech) with minimum 50% aggregate marks.

Those appearing for 10+2 examination, 2009 are also eligible to apply.

Only for Biotechnology:
Pass 10+2 or equivalent or relevant higher qualification (with Physics, Chemistry and English as a compulsory subjects and any one of the following - Biology or Mathematics with minimum 50% aggregate marks.

SYLLABUS OF EXAMINATION

* No Separate preparation/ coaching is required for NEAT-2009 as this is a test for understanding of subjects being learnt in 10+1 & 10+2. The questions for the Examination shall be based on the common minimum syllabus of Central/State boards.
* University is providing free mock test at its website www.lpu.in/neat2009/mock from 10th April 2009 onwards.

Pass with a recognized Bachelor’s degree in any discipline or equivalent or relevant higher qualification with:

1. Valid score of at least 70% in CAT-08 or 80% in MAT(Sep’08, Dec’08, Feb’09/XAT-09) with minimum 50% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA;
Or
2. Minimum 60% aggregate marks or CGPA.

Prof.V.N.Rajasekharan Pillai, Vice-Chancellor, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has been conferred the 5th Prof.M.V.Pylee Award for the Distinguished Academician of India-2006.

This award instituted by Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) in the name of Padma Bhushan Prof. M.V.Pylee is the top-most award in the country for a University teacher.Prof. Pillai is the 5th recipient of this triennial award.

Earlier recipients were Padma Vibhushan Prof.Jayant Narlikar,world renowned astrophysicist from Pune,Late Prof. M.N.Srinivas,distinguished Sociologist from Bangalore,and Padma Vibhushan Prof. M.S.Valiathan,distinguished Surgeon and world-renowned medical scientist.

The award selection committee consisted the following dignitaries:Prof. C.N.R.Rao, Prof. M.S.Valiathan, Prof.J.Narlikar, Prof. Padma Ramachandran, Prof. M.S.Swaminathan and Prof. D.Acharya.

The Award has been instituted through an endowment from a corpus of Rs.10 Lakh donated by Prof.M.V.Pylee, former Vice-Chancellor of CUSAT. The Award, presented once in three years, carries a purse of Rs.2 Lakh, citation and a momento.

MAJOR RELAXATION FOR ADMISSION TO MBA AND OTHER MANAGEMENT PROGRAMMES


For the first time in the history of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) the minimum eligibility for admission to MBA and other PG Diplomas in Management have been relaxed announced Prof. V. N. Rajasekharan Pillai, Vice Chancellor.

Now fresh graduates with 50% marks for general category and 45% for reserved category are eligible for OPENMAT entrance test of IGNOU.

The essential clause of 3 years experience in Supervisory and Managerial category for graduates has been removed. Even those graduates who have successfully cleared the entrance test for admission into the Management programmes conducted by recognized institutions like CAT, MAT and State level tests conducted by State Government etc. need not sit for the OPENMAT entrance test of IGNOU.

There is no age bar for any of the following programmes, the admission of which has opened.

Change of Exam Centre(Code 0701)


All the students of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) who were initially attached/allotted examination centre 0701 (Ch. Jaswant Lal Public School, Plot NO. 13., Street No.77, Punjabi Bagh West, New Delhi-110026) are hereby informed that this Examination Centre has been closed and the students have been shifted to other Examination Centre in Delhi.

Revised Hall Ticket to all such students have been issued and the same uploaded on the university website for download. In case any student fails to receive the revised hall ticket, the students are advised to download the same and approach the new venue of exam centre on the date alongwith the hall ticket.

All the students who have downloaded the hall ticket from the university website (www.ignou.ac.in) before 25th November, 2008 are directed to download the Hall Ticket again as the website has been uploaded after incorporating the updation and charges.

Launched Diploma Programme in Business Process Outsourcing in association with Accenture


Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) launched Diploma Programme in Business Process Outsourcing in association with Accenture.

Students who successfully complete the program and pass all term end examination papers will be eligible to apply for employment with Accenture and other BPO companies.

It will commence its Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) Diploma programme with the launch of a Finance and Accounting Outsourcing diploma. The programme will help grow talent for India's outsourcing industry by providing comprehensive training in BPO processes.

The applications for the first diploma programme will be open till February 15, 2009. The six month programme will focus on building FAO skills of students with 10+2 (minimum of 50% aggregate marks with English as a compulsory subject) or Bachelors Degree and above (English as a compulsory subject in 10+2 or equivalent) as the minimum eligibility criteria.

To be selected for the program, applicants must pass a written admission test in English communication and quantitative ability to be conducted from February 7 to 15, 2009 across 18 specified centers. On-the-spot admissions will be offered from February 7 – 15, 2009 to students who meet the eligibility criteria and pass the admission test. The last date for submission of admission fees is February 17, 2009.

This programme is targeted towards undergraduate and graduate students from tier I to tier IV cities and will be available to more than 1 million students across India via IGNOU's extensive network. IGNOU at present has 62 regional centers and 2,053 study centers across the country. The programme will also cater to working professionals who would like to cross skill or up skill themselves in the Finance and Accounting outsourcing domain.

"We have leveraged the expertise of Accenture to develop the course content and train the teachers and IGNOU owns the delivery of the content across 27 cities and in 43 Programme centres in the first phase. I am confident that this academia and industry collaboration will create huge employment opportunities for the students who complete this Programme," said V.N. Rajasekharan Pillai-Vice Chancellor-IGNOU.

The Diploma programme incorporates a unique blend of theory and practical courses, designed by academicians, Accenture, BPO training organizations and e-learning organizations, to provide students with a comprehensive learning model.

Through formal training of counselors / faculty trained by Accenture and Industry experts, combined with 'on the job' practice scenarios in the form of e-Learning and textbooks, the program brings additional focus and recognition to critical delivery skills across the BPO industry.

This diploma programme will be subsequently extended to offering courses across other specific BPO services such as human resources, category management, customer contact, insurance, banking, health care, pharmaceuticals, engineering services, and equity research and capital markets.

Conducting Entrance Tests for Management Programmes (Openmat-xxv)


Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is conducting Entrance Tests for Management Programmes (Openmat-xxv) for the sessions starting from July, 2009 on the Sunday 1st February, 2009. The Entrance Test will be held between 10.00 am to 1.00 pm.

The Entrance Test is being organized in 133 Examination Centres accommodating 22637 candidates for Management Programme.

The Hall-tickets have already been dispatched to the candidates by the University. The particulars of Hall-tickets are also available on the IGNOU Website www.ignou.ac.in . In case of non-receipt of Hall-ticket by any candidate, the Hall-ticket can be downloaded from the University Website by entering Name and Date of Birth of the candidate and report to the Examination Centre. In case candidates are unable to download the Hall-ticket, they can contact the Regional Centre and obtain the information of Examination Centre allocated and report to the Examination Centre with a proof of submission of Entrance Test application form along with recent passport size photograph. In such case they have to submit an undertaking at the Examination Centre stating that in the event of information furnished by them found to be incorrect, their candidature will be cancelled. Candidates must report at the Examination Centre 45 minutes before commencement of the Entrance Test.

University has deputed Central Observers in all the 133 examination centres to ensure smooth conduct of the entrance test.

Research and Development at three natioal level institutions


Three national level institutions viz, IGNOU Institute of Vocational Education Training (IIVET), IGNOU Institute for Professional Competency and Advancement of Teachers (IIPCAT) and North-East Centre for Research and Development (NECRD) are being set up by Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).

This was announced by Prof Omprakash Mishra, Pro-Vice Chancellor, IGNOU in the forthcoming inaugural issue of IGNOU Newsletter in conversation with its reporter A. Sri Lakshmi.

For now, we plan that the NECRD be developed to be a think-tank. 25 students of Research and Teaching Assistantship (RTAs) have been appointed who could persue their PhDs and at the same time contribute to the extension and outreach activities of the university in the North East Region, he added.

Prof. Mishra, emphasized that lot of activities have been planned for educational development in North-East region. There are eight states now - Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. The IGNOU is a leading active player in education delivery in the region. We have hundreds of Study Centres spread all over these states. These efforts are being further complemented by institution building in areas which have generally not got the importance they deserved.

The new initiatives in eight regional centres have ensured a quantum jump in the activity of IGNOU which promises to bring in the educational development in North-East states. We have now decided to have a new Regional Centre at Guwahati to supplement the exiting one.

Secondly, we have decided to set up institutions for Agriculture and Extension Work in Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, he added.

Stage is set for Community Radio Movement take-off


Indira Gandhi National Open University has signed up with Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA) and 10 broadcasters working in various parts of the country for the Certificate programme in Community Radio. In the second phase, other broadcasters will be signed up.

CEMCA Director Dr R Sreedher, who had announced 150 scholarships for students willing to set up Community Radios, represented his centre. Asked about CEMCA's future roles in spreading awareness of Community Radio other than just offering scholarships, Dr Sreedhar said, "If necessary and asked, we are also willing to provide the future broadcasters the technological know-how".

The ten established broadcasters, known as vendors who responded to IGNOU's call for collaboration, will impart on-the-job training to the enrolled students of the certificate course. Eight centres spread across the country also have been identified to impart hands-on training to the pass-outs in the initial stage. Half of the course component is thoroughly practical, to be learnt only through apprenticeship.

The vendors, who started as NGOs, are also likely to be financially supported by the IGNOU and the CEMCA. That will help these broadcasting stations to function as resource–cum-training centres of the Community Radio Certificate programme pass-outs.

The centres are broadly in southern states, where exist a score of functional Community Radio stations, and some are scattered at other locations, such as Jharkhand, Orissa, West Bengal etc.

Academic programmes apart, the IGNOU is also mulling to create awareness among people of utility of Community Radios as a tool for regional development fast. This awareness programmes will be carried out in areas where any established Community Radio station does not exist yet. Efforts will be to get students who will be able to set up Community radio stations in the region.

For many parts of the country where established vendors do not yet function – say in North-East states, coastal areas, backward regions

etc. The School of Journalism and New Media Studies (SOJNMS) has decided to use the Gyan Vani facilities in selective charts of time-slots to run the Community Radio broadcasting schedules. These efforts are likely to generate jobs and boost extension services in agriculture, fisheries, floriculture, horticulture etc. The target groups at present are small-town journalists and NGOs, unemployed youth and retired professionals, who would want to be future trainers and radio stationmasters.

Addressing the gathering of scholars, researchers and broadcasters in the campus,Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr Latha Pillai said, "The Community Radios should be successfully launched to address social issues in agriculture, education, health etc. It is not enough just to have a programme to train aspiring broadcasters. Even within the university the SOJNMS and COL programmes can be integrated with the School of Agriculture (SOA) for effective implementation of Community Radio certificate courses. In fact, the SOA and the SOJNMS should work together."

Initially, the programme was a venture of the IGNOU's Electronic Media Production Centre (EMPC). Recently it has been transferred to the New School for Journalism and New Media Studies (SOJNMS) after the school became functional with employment of veteran vernacular journalist Dr Shambhu Nath Singh as its director. All running programmes in journalism and mass communication of IGNOU now onwards will be managed by the SOJNMS.

With the academic programme for Community Radio assigned to be the managed by the new school, SOJNMS, its director Dr Shambhu Nath Singh says, "Not only this Community Radio, all programmes from this school will be created to ensure attitudinal shift in education to provide both academic as well as on-job training and apprenticeship." Stressing on internship as an integral part of the Certificate Programme in Community Radio, Dr Singh explained, "Internship as an integral part of an academic programme is not a regular feature in Indian system of education. We are addressing modalities of internship to develop some standardized formats for on-job training and also to assess potential of individual learners in different aspects of broadcasting."

20th Convocation of the IGNOU


20th Convocation of the Indira Gandhi National Open University(IGNOU) will be held on Saturday, the 28th February, 2009 at Sanchar Kendra, IGNOU Campus, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi – 110068.

All students who have passed their Master, Bachelor and Diploma examinations held in December 2007 and June 2008 will be eligib for award of Degrees/Diplomas.

IGNOU allows students see their answerscripts after results


New Delhi: From the 2008 December examination onwards, candidates appearing for various examinations in Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) shall be given the opportunity to get a photocopy of the answerbook, if she/he so desires, within 45 days after the declaration of results.

Issuing an order today, Vice Chancellor Professor VN Rajasekharan Pillai said, "an appropriate stationery charge of rupees one hundred per paper may be levied from the candidate for this purpose. The procedure is for ensuring greater transparency and accountability in the evaluation of answerscripts. Return of the answerscripts will also give the learners an occasion to understand their mistakes and correct them through further study."

On the rationale behind the order, Professor Pillai said, "See, the purpose of education delivery is not whether you pass an examination or not, but whether what have understood well what has been imparted onto you. At the same time the evaluators also must appreciate that their job bears tremendous responsibilities. This arrangement will naturally lead to the question who was the evaluator? Therefrom will start the question of transparency and accountability. As the world's largest university and the leader of Open and Distance Learning (ODL) the IGNOU has a duty to ensure these. This will also help in developing rigid quality control mechanism within the IGNOU evaluation system."

Though novel for India, the practice exists in most advanced countries' university examination system.

IGNOU launches Smart Move Internship Program


Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) launches Smart Move Internship Program to reach 10,000 students with an all India tie-up with Max New York Life. This will provide students an opportunity to 'earn while learn'.
