Does Education Boost Personal Development in Young Adults?

Does Education Boost Personal Development in Young Adults?
If there’s one thing that is a must for any child today, it’s education. Education is the answer to all the ills that plague the world; it is the key that opens the doors to success and prosperity; and it is the secret to gaining confidence in yourself and your abilities. Without education, it is practically impossible to survive today unless you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth and inherited enough wealth for a few more generations. So with all these advantages that education offers, can we say that it builds character and boosts the personal development of young adults?

The years that straddle youth and adulthood are not easy to navigate unless you have a clear head on your shoulders and are aware of the pitfalls that lie ahead. It’s the age when you develop a character or the lack of one. And it’s the time when you are bombarded with choices and unsure of the right ones to make. Education helps you make the right choices by weighing the pros and cons and basing your decisions on your circumstances and what is suitable for them. But when it comes to personal development, it does not do much to build moral and ethical fiber. Rather, it boosts your self confidence and equips you with the skills you need to grow professionally. On the personal front however, it is your upbringing that counts. Your family and friends play a significant role in deciding your character when you are a young adult. The people closest to you influence who you are and how your personality turns out.
As you grow older, your experiences add to the kind of person you become. But the most significant factor is personality development is the willingness and desire to change yourself into the kind of person you want to be. Once you become more aware of yourself and why you act the way you do, it’s easy to control your behavior and channel your energy positively.

When you’re in the awkward space between childhood and adulthood, you find it easier to give in to peer pressure and follow the crowd than do what your inner mind tells you is right. You choose the path of least conflict because you’re not ready to expend all your energy in swimming against the tide. But when you develop your own personality, you tend to do what is right rather than what your friends decide to do. Education may not be the most important tool in personality development, but it does boost your confidence and improve your skills so that you feel more in control of yourself.

India Education Bill to Open the Country to Foreign Investment

India Education Bill to Open the Country to Foreign Investment

Recently, a Hindustan Times article reported on the passage of India's foreign education investment bill, which would build bridges between two of the world's strongest economies.

According to the article, India will possess the world's largest work force by 2020, during which it will have an additional 47 million workers. The United States Secretary of State for South Asia Robert Blake is quoted in the article as saying:

"These legions of Indians entering the workforce for the first time represent an immense economic opportunity for India and its partners - but only if they receive the education and training they will need to compete in India's globalising economy."

This is the second time that a foreign education bill has been put up to the parliament for ratification. The last time was in 2007, at a time when there was too much opposition by Left parties, which had strong government clout, according to an Economic Times article published in March. The Foreign Educational Institutions Bill, as it is officially called, will enable foreign universities to invest in education in India, and it will also help in regulating the entry, operation, and maintenance of quality of assurance and prevention of commercialization by foreign institutions of higher education. In addition, the bill will protect Indian students from educational scams.

In late 2009, Union Minister for Human Resource Development Kapil Sibal met with several university presidents as well as representatives from prestigious foreign universities like Yale, Harvard, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston University, and others.

Although as of yet, no foreign universities have committed to setting up campuses on Indian soil, several institutions of higher education have reaffirmed their intention to either establish partnerships with existing Indian universities, or to further strengthen those partnerships that are already in existence.

According to a Business Standard article, of these collaborations between foreign and Indian university campuses, the largest portion of them--about one-fourth-- are in business management and administration, while about 22 percent of these programs focus on information technology. Following closely behind IT are hospitality related programs, representing 20 percent of all foreign education partnerships in India.

Many hope that the passage of the bill will help in putting a halt to the mass flux of Indian talent abroad; the bill also endeavors to attract more foreign students to India itself. Whatever the effective outcomes of the current foreign education bill, Indian students can rest assured that India's system of higher education will only continue to improve with the passage of time.

Facts About Medical College in India

Facts About Medical College in India

Medical school in India is much like the United States in that they are institutions of higher learning that grant medical educations to prospective doctors and medical professionals. But in India, med school is called Medical College and the administration, coursework and admission processes can be very different. Traditionally, medical colleges in India were required by law to be recognized and approved by the Medical Council of India, a statutory body that enforced uniform standards of accreditation and curriculum. This body was dissolved amidst scandal in May 2010 and today the government keeps a list of the approved medical colleges in the country.

The administration of medical colleges is vastly different from that of the United States. They are owned, funded and administrated by either the government of India, state governments or private organizations. Similarly to the United States, admission requirements can differ between various parts of the country and even between institutions in the same city. The majority of students entering medical colleges must take entrance examinations as part of the admissions process or use the grades received in the final year of high school. These exams include the AIIMS Delhi, AIPGE, AIPMT Delhi, and AFMC CEE – Kerala. To attend a state-run college, students must pass the  Common Entrance Test.

There are several degrees available for students entering medical college. The MBBS or Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery is a five-and-a-half year program that is considered by American standards to be an undergraduate level degree, but in India, it is referred to as a graduate program. After four and a half years of schooling, students must complete one year of Compulsory Rotating Residential

Internship with the hospital associated with their respective college. To be eligible for this program, a student must have completed an HSC, (Higher Secondary Certificate) a public examination that requires at least 12 years of schooling with a scientific focus. Their studies must have included biology, chemistry, physics and students must receive a grade of at least 50% in those subjects. This program is taken in three parts. The first stage lasts for 12 months and includes education in the basic sciences of anatomy, physiology and biochemistry. The second state is 18 months longs and consists of courses in pharmacology, pathology, microbiology and forensic medicine. The last stage is 24 months long and covers ophthalmology, otorhinolaryngology, community medicine, general medicine, pediatrics, surgery, orthopedic surgery and obstetrics and gynecology. By American standards, graduate level course work, or post-graduate in India, can only be pursued once a student has earned an MBBS. Postgraduate degrees and diplomas include Doctor of Medicine (MD), Master of Surgery (MS) or Diplomat of National Board (DNB). These degrees can be awarded in various concentrations including: general medicine, general surgery, orthopedics, radio diagnosis, anesthesia, pediatrics, pathology, anatomy and more. Degree programs generally take up to three years to complete while diploma courses only take two years. While vastly different in some aspects of administration, curriculum and admissions, both medical schools in the United States and medical colleges in India appear to provide their students with exhaustive educations in the field of medicine.

3 Qualities for Higher Education Success

3 Qualities for Higher Education Success

Not everyone can continue to be a topper and high achiever all through their lives; some are at the head of the class all through school while others pick up steam only during their days at college. But no matter how high an achiever you are throughout your life, it takes a different kind of effort to stay at the top of your class in graduate school. This is because only those who are academically motivated and exceptionally good learners climb up to this level; they’re in grad school because they have goals and are taking the path that leads to those goals. Grad school is a stop along that path, and they know that they must give their best if they are to achieve success. And along the way, they have to compete with others who are used to being at the top as well, so the challenges they face go up to a higher standard. The bar is raised, and grad school students know that they must strive to stay ahead or they risk falling behind. A few qualities that help when it comes to achieving success in higher education are:

•    The ability to rethink your strategy: You may have been used to topping your class all your life, but grad school is full of people like you. So you must be prepared to find that you’re not the only smart one in class. This preparation and anticipation helps you raise your level of study and devise new strategies to ace your exams and earn good grades. When you’re ready to put in extra effort and find ways to help you study faster and more efficiently, you’re able to come up with an effective plan that you can follow in your path to success.

•    The ability to stay the path: The important thing about having a plan is to be able to stick to it; when you deviate from your plan just because others are achieving better results than you by doing something different, you tend to hesitate and so compromise on speed and direction. It’s advisable to follow what works best for you instead of trying to ape others and falling short. So when you create a path, stick to it by doing what you do best and trying to achieve success on your terms.

•    The ability to accept your limitations: And finally, it’s better to accept your limitations than try to be what you are not. You don’t have to necessarily graduate at the top of your class, and when you try to do so by pushing yourself beyond physical and mental limits, you end up burning out or suffering a breakdown. So know what you are capable of, and work within your limits if you want to achieve success in higher education

How to Ace Your B-School Interview in India

How to Ace Your B-School Interview in India

It’s one of the more prestigious degrees in India, but because just about every university offers it, an MBA increases in value proportional to the status of the college that offers it. So if you were to get into the premier IIM institutes, you would graduate as the cream of the crop. But before you get past the threshold of any B-School, you need to first clear the written exam and then cross the interview stage. While the exam is mostly a piece of cake for the studious and those of academic bent, the interview is a whole new cup of tea. You need to appear confident without being cocky, knowledgeable without being a know-it-all, and eager to get in without being subservient to your interviewers. In general, here’s what you need to do to ace your B-School interview:

•    Be prepared: The thing about preparation is that not everyone knows how to do it the right way; we all prepare for tests and interviews, but the real key to acing interviews is to be prepared to answer any kind of question that’s thrown at you. You need to be prepared to deviate from your prepared script and answer confidently, and if you don’t know the answer to a question, you must be prepared to admit to the fact rather than fudge your way through. In general however, your interview questions will deal with why you want to do an MBA and why you want to get into this particular B-School, so be prepared to answer to the best of your ability.

•    Be yourself: Don’t try to put on airs and be something you’re not in an attempt to impress the interviewer. This usually has a negative effect and you’re shown in a poor light. Rather, be natural and answer the questions as best as you can without trying to go overboard or giving over the top answers.

•    Be serious: An interview is not the time for jokes, either self-deprecatory or otherwise. You need to look and be serious and portray yourself as a dignified future businessperson. Your interviewers must be satisfied that you are serious about your future and the path you have chosen to reach your goal.

•    Be sincere: You may be a happy-go-lucky person, but that’s not the attitude to adopt during an interview. You must show the interviewers that you are serious about getting into the institution because it is your first choice and not because you have no other alternative. When your sincerity comes across genuinely, you’ve made an impression with the panel.

Prepare for your interview based on the school you choose and customize each preparation according to the particular curriculum and college. This way, you boost your chance of success.
